Sestri Levante Crowned Surfski Capital as Italian Youth SS1 Titles Awarded at Tigullio Ocean Racing

Sestri Levante once again proved to be an ideal stage for surfski, hosting the 2025 edition of the Tigullio Ocean Racing on Sunday, October 26. The picturesque Baia delle Favole and Baia del Silenzio welcomed over 150 athletes from 27 clubs across Italy, including the islands. Competitors engaged in the Italian Youth SS1 Championship, the National Novice and Cadet Race, and an international event open to all other categories. The organization, meticulously handled by Shock Wave Sports ASD, was excellent, ensuring order and safety throughout the event. The challenging coastal courses were designed to test athletes' wave reading abilities, boat handling skills, and tactical management. The Youth category competed on a 3.5 km circuit, while the international race featured an 11 km course. In the Italian Youth SS1 Championship, the male title was claimed by Leonardo Brandizzi (Roma Canoa Academy) with the fastest time of 19’12.0. He was followed by Antonino Rustico (Circolo Canoa Naxos) in 19’37.2 and Nicola Canzano (Unione Canottieri Livornesi) in 19’38.1. For the women, Noemi Micalizzi (Circolo Canoa Naxos) was crowned Italian Champion with a time of 24’11.8, with Diana Talon (Navigliosport) taking second in 24’56.1 and Elisa Bonafini (Canoa Club Pescantina) third in 25’37.7. The international race also delivered great spectacle. In the men's division, Leonardo Candela (Idroscalo Club) secured victory in 47’51.5, ahead of Massimo Palomba (Canottieri Padova) in 48’35.0 and Riccardo Maccioccu (Shock Wave Sports) in 48’45.4. The women's international title went to Beatrice Candela (Idroscalo Club) with 58’17.0, followed by Carlotta Tortello (Shock Wave Sports) in 59’19.0, and Nikki Pregliasco (Amici Nuoto Riva) in 1:02’08.7. The National Novice and Cadet Race saw strong participation, with SS1 boats provided by the Federation.
