Sicily to host Naxos Cup and Italian ocean racing championship

Naxos Cup and Italian Ocean Racing Championship 2026

Preparations are complete for the 2026 Naxos Cup, an eagerly anticipated international event on the International Canoe Federation calendar. This annual competition, specifically designed for surfski and outrigger enthusiasts, is expertly organized by the Circolo Nautico Teocle. For the eighth consecutive year, the event will crown the Italian Ocean Racing champions in both the SS1 and OC1 categories. Scheduled for Saturday, May 16th and Sunday, May 17th, the competition returns to Sicily, offering a fantastic opportunity to showcase the stunning Ionian Messina region.

Increased Participation and Diverse Races

The Italian Championship is experiencing a significant surge in participation, with 64 athletes from 20 different clubs expected to compete this year, a notable increase from 14 clubs in 2025. Alongside the championship, the two-day Sicilian event will also host a National Race, featuring a wide array of categories:

  • Allievi (Novices)
  • Cadetti (Cadets)
  • Ragazzi (Youth)
  • Junior
  • U23 (Under 23)
  • Senior

The younger categories, Allievi and Cadetti, will navigate a 2 km circuit course, while the Ragazzi category will tackle a slightly longer 5 km circuit. Competitors in the Junior, Senior, and U23 divisions will face a challenging 21 km downwind course, starting from Santa Teresa di Riva and concluding in Giardini Naxos, or vice versa, depending on conditions.

Live results will be accessible online through the Italian Timekeepers Federation's service.
