Ten Azzurri athletes to compete at European Championships for ocean racing in Brest

Italian ocean racing is set to make its mark on the shores of Brittany for a pivotal event in the international calendar. From Wednesday, August 26th, to Sunday, August 30th, Brest, France, will host the European Championships. This prestigious competition will see nearly 300 athletes vying for continental honors across various categories.

The event unfolds along Brittany's challenging northwestern coastline, offering a spectacular yet demanding environment. Competitors will navigate courses spanning approximately 20 kilometers, contending with unpredictable winds, waves, currents, and constantly shifting weather conditions. This provides a rigorous test for the discipline's specialists, with organizers having access to a potential race area exceeding 110 kilometers to select the optimal route based on sea conditions.

A contingent of ten athletes will proudly represent Italy across the Senior, Under 23, and Junior divisions.

  • Senior Men's Kayak: Nicolò Razeto (CC Nervi)
  • Under 23 Men: Massimo Palomba (Shock Wave Sports), Riccardo Maccioccu (Shock Wave Sports), Mauro Tafuri (CN Posillipo)
  • Junior Men: Lorenzo Marrone (C. Ilva Bagnoli), Leonardo Brandizzi (Roma Canoa Academy), Leonardo Candela (Idroscalo Club)
  • Under 23 Women: Beatrice Candela (Idroscalo Club)
  • Junior Women: Marilù Brambilla (SC Lecco), Nikki Pregliasco (Amici Nuoto Riva)

The Italian delegation is under the leadership of federal technical director Mariano Bifano, supported by federal coach Giovanni Saperdi and club coach Gabriele Fabris.

Following the opening ceremony, the competitive program kicks off on Thursday, August 27th, with the SS1 and OC1 races. The course will guide athletes from Kerhornou beach in Ploumoguer to the port of Portsall-Ploudalmézeau. The OC1 races are scheduled to begin at 12:30 PM, immediately followed by the women's SS1 and paracanoe events...
