Maltese Paddler Mattea Micallef Shines at South Skåne Ocean Race 2025 MALMÖ

Maltese athlete Mattea Micallef, 19, delivered an exceptional performance at the South Skåne Ocean Race 2025 in Malmö, Sweden. Currently on an Erasmus program in Oslo, she represents the Surfski Shack and trains with the Oslo KajakKlubb.

Race Highlights:

  • Category Win: Secured 1st place in the Women's U23 category.

  • Overall Standing: Finished 4th overall in the women’s division with a time of 2:16:27, just 39 seconds off the overall podium.

  • Tough Conditions: Navigated a technical 25km course with south-westerly winds gusting up to 19 knots and constant side-on waves.

  • Elite Competition: Competed against top-ranked world athletes, including Emma Levemyr (World #1 in 45-49) and Astrid Hjorth (World #2 in 35-39).

Micallef's performance confirms her as a rising star in international surfski. The club expressed gratitude to the Oslo Kajakklubb, Nextwave Surfski, and Malmö Canoe Club for their support.
